1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten reading club promotes the importance of reading aloud with children, starting in infancy. For families with children birth – 5 years old (not yet in kindergarten). This is an ongoing reading club that promotes child and parent bonding through reading.
Children will receive a prize for every 100 books read and record.
Starting September 1 you can register for the program on the READsquared application. This is the same platform we use for our Summer Reading program. Simply sign up and record the titles of the books as you read.
We ask that parents track books on the READsquared app, but also have tracking sheets for every hundred books read if that’s preferable.

Don’t worry – if you joined this program prior to September 1, all the books you read and recorded count! Just record your prior readings in the ReadSquared app or see a Librarian for help.
HOW DO I:
Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program?
Joining this reading program is as simple as registering through ReadSquared!
- Go to: wbplny05.readsquared.com or download the ReadSquared App through the Apple or Google Play Store
- Once your account is created you can log in on any platform, or download the app!
Switch from the Summer Reading Club to the 1,000 Books Program?
- Log into your ReadSquared Account
- Navigate to the top right hand corner and select ‘Account’
- In the drop down menu select ‘Add Reader or Program’
- Enter how old your child/ reader is
- Select the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten option if offered
- Fill out the required information – a new username and password are not required
Link my ReadSquared Accounts?
This is a great option to easily switch between accounts for families
- Log into your ReadSquared Account
- Navigate to the top right hand corner and select ‘Account’
- In the drop down menu select ‘Add Reader or Program’
- Either register the account you want to add or put in the username and password for the existing account you need to link!
Log a Book?

- To log a book, select the ‘Log’ button and input the book you read
- Then add the title and author, plus a review if you would like!
- Keep logging to earn points and reach your next goal
Complete the Club
Read and record 1,000 Books before your child starts Kindergarten!
Remember: any book read to your child counts, including books from story times or nursery school, even books your child has read before!
One thousand books may seem like a lot, but if you read just one book a night, you’ll meet your goal in less than 3 years. If you read three books a night, you could reach your goal in just one year! Ask our friendly staff for suggestions—we’re here to help you on your journey to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
Super Sibling Reader
Stop by the Children’s Room and pick up a Super Sibling Reader Color Chart or print your own here!
Color in an animal every time siblings read to each other. When the chart is filled in, come in for your certificate & prize!
