THE GREAT GIVE BACK 2026
Saturday, October 17, 11 am-1 pm
Join us for this year’s Great Give Back – a day of giving across NYS! Visit the library between the times above and help “give back” at different stations. All are welcome and teens can earn up to 3 hours of community service for participating. Can’t make it this day? All month long the Library will be collecting donations for various organizations across Long Island. Visit our website for more details.

Volunteer Stations
DECORATIONS FOR NURSING HOME: Decorate seasonal large 3D hanging ornaments to be donated to local Nursing Homes for residents to enjoy.
LIBRARY BUTTONS AND BOOKMARKS: Create advocacy buttons and bookmarks to be distributed to community members in support of the library
MOMENTOS FOR HOSPICE MEMORIAL: Create ornaments or charms to be given out during a memorial to honor those who have passed while in Hospice care
BROWN BAG LUNCHES: Decorate and fill brown bags for lunches for those in need in our communities through Long Island Coalition for the Homeless
PINK PUMPKINS: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Help raise awareness by decorating pumpkins pink to be donated to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition.

Donation Drives
Crayon Initiative: We will be collecting used and broken crayons to be donated to the Crayon Initiative. This organization takes unwanted crayons and remanufactures them into brand-new crayons designed specifically for ill and injured kids!
Baby Supplies Drive: October 1 – November 15
We will be collecting baby supplies such as NEW pacifiers, diapers, outlet covers, diaper creams, etc. Donated items will be made into care packages by our teens and donated to Suffolk County Department of Women’s Services.
Long Island Cares: October 1 – November 30
Donate non-perishable food items, baby supplies, and toiletries for donation to Long Island Cares.
Pet Supply Drive: October 1 – November 30
Donate unopened bags of dog and cat food, canned pet food and pet supplies. Items collected will be donated to Town of Babylon Animal Shelter & Paws of War.
Halloween Candy: November 1-8
Donate your leftover Halloween candy. Teens will earn community service credit by creating goody bags for U.S soldiers through Soldiers Angels.
Toys for Tots: Mid -November – Mid-December
Toys for Tots provides toys to children who might otherwise go without due to economic hardships and family disturbances, with all local donations distributed within the community. Please stop by the Library to donate a new, unwrapped toy.
Mitten Tree
December 1-31
Donate NEW mittens, hats, and scarves to help decorate our Mitten Tree this holiday season! All donations will be made to a local charity to help keep our community members warm.
